Any xxx-500 is going to be big and heavy so we might as well ask for a constant aperture. and DA*150-500 f4.5 would be nice... big and heavy, yes... but ohhhh so nice. I'd love to be able to replace my Bigma with a weather sealed Pentax lens.

I'd be more interested in an 16-80ish f/4 with the build quality and optical performance of Nikon's new 24-120/4 VRII. WR, of course, and maybe SDM II?

I've got the DA 17-70 f/4 and I'd say it's pretty stinkin' good! I think a higher spec'd version would be a bit redundant, especially given that the current one is quite good. It's not DA* good, but still good. It's partially sealed too!

If they were going to do a zoom that reached to 500 (unlikely, but we live in hope), I expect Pentax would take up where the 60-250 left off, rather than the 18-135.

I would be quite happy with a DA* 250-500mm f5.6, though a DA*250-600mm f5.6 would be KILLER!!! Pentax really needs to get back into long glass. Sure we can buy the FA stuff, but I want the weather sealing that the DA*'s provide. It's so cool being out in the weather still shooting while all the Canon and Nikon guys are running for cover or throwing garbage bags over their cameras.

Please, no more wide angle zooms until they have the holes in their lens line up filled.
We already have an 18-55, 16-45, 16-50, and 17-70mm lenses.
We don't have any non macro primes between 77mm and 200mm
We don't have any primes at all longer than 300mm.
For that matter, we don't have anything longer than 300mm.
A fifth wide angle zoom is not what they need to be making right now.

I Agree, more wide angle is not what is required. But i doubt pentax will make anything over 300mm for a while, maybe a 400 f5.6?? But until they have a greater market share and support from more bird and sports photogs requiring those lenses i cant see them investing in a lens that few people will buy, not at the price it would be anyway. Pentax seems to be more about affordability for the moment.

Perhaps a good thing from Sigma's perspective though.

I'm on board with that train. With the 18-135, there are now six zooms covering this range.
