If you end up getting the 55-300, an idea for her next birthday might be the Raynox 150. The word is that in combination with 55-300 this makes a nice macro lens substitute :-)
Thanks for the tip.

So, I did make up my mind and I have made a deal to get the DA 55-300 after much consideration.
I think she'll like it.

I have no clue about this Raynox 150 ... what is that?

A high quality achromat / diopter lens attaching to the front of another lens (see: DCR-150 Macro conversion lens for D-SLR camera). Of course, a dedicated macro lens is another proposition, but IQ for the price and carrying convenience the Raynox & 55-300 seems quite respectable.

I agree with Joelpp's recommendation. In effect, the $50 Raynox DCR 150 will
extend the lens' range of magnification from about 0-0.2X to about 0-2X.

So I see ... Thanks.

I went to check the website too.
Looks like a fine piece of glass and, as I was browsing the Pentax Photo Gallery, I noticed that some shots were taken with this Raynox lens.
To be honest, the accepted macro shots taken that way were very. very good.

How does the Tamron 70-300mm hold up to the 55-300 though? I got the Tamron with my K-r and was just curious if there is anyone with both lenses?
