I've got old SMC LBA so bad, I checked out the Pawn shops today. We have REALLY scary pawn shops.
No luck. Even scary people know SMC quality.

Haha the pawn shop folks here would much rather take up some Canikon.

I traded my Canon Rebel II + 35-80/4-5.6 for a Pentax MZ-M+35-70/3.5-4.5 at one of these electronic shops and its the best decision photographically I have ever made. Btw, my Canon is still sitting on the store front display shelf, a years worth of dust layered onto it. =D

Unless you buy one for each of us.

More comparisons between Sigma and old m135/3.5 :

It seems that for softer portraits the difference between them isn't as great:

I bought a new-old-stock 70-210/f4 about a year ago. I forgot how much I paid for it but it wasn't much... probably around $100. The box was still sealed. Here's a sample from the lens at 200mm and f5.6 (I think).

I totally agree. Even the BINs of Jupiter-9s on ebay have dropped substantially.

AF lenses have their place. On a recent trip in europe there were many times that my DA 50-200 was mandatory. On a tour bus moving about a city, camera set to AF-C, I was able to grab many great shots that were just impossible to get with my primes. Trust me, I tried.

Of course, some primes are faster to focus than others so your mileage may vary.

Me too.

I like the old primes and I have no intention of replacing them for any DA lens I´ve tried so far. Manual focusing is not a problem the way I shoot and actually, I´m concidering getting an A 70-210 because of the macro feature.

Due to this (not trying to hi-jack the thread here) I´m wondring if the F 70-210 also have the macro feature? I see they´re going for peanuts on fleabay.

I have to admit, getting to at least an "A" would be nice. The manual focus is not a biggy - my day job is in pro Video so I'm used to using manual focus AND being dead on 99.9%. If only video and camera lenses didn't focus in opposite directions! Throws me every time until my motor memory "gets" it.
LOL! And I thought I was the only one who gets confused by lenses that focus "in the wrong direction"! I have the Sigma 70-200 and the focus direction is the opposite of Pentax lenses.

My 2 Sigmas zoom opposite of each other. Not even consistent with themselves :-)

The SMC M42 lenses are all excellent. I have a 28, 50, 105 and 135 left over from my film days and on Friday night I picked up an SMC 200 f/4 for $40 from a little antique shop I go to from time to time. It's a little beat up but I think it will take pretty nice pictures. I haven't used it much because we've had steady, heavy rain all weekend but I did take this one the night I picked it up just as a tryout. It was dusk and the lights of the gas station were the only things I could find to shoot. K10D, handheld, 1/80 @ f/5.6, oh, and no PP on this other than resize for web...
