Quick shift focus on the Pentax version ?

Considering that this lens is being classified as a DA, would this mean that the lens would have the quick shift focus feature of the 50-200 and the 18-55? The Tamron version doesn't have this ability.

If so, I might be seriously considering putting my two day old Tamron 18-250 back in the box, and returning it. On my other DA's the quick shift is very handy, especially in low light where there's a lot of hunting - gets the focus close enough so that the AF can usaully lock in quickly.

Interesting! But are they still working on DA 17-70mm? That is the lens I am waiting for. With the DA 18-250mm now in the lineup I am a bit concerned about the future of DA 17-70mm.

Finn,

That is so funny!!! Will you be using that on your new 46MB ISO 12800 camera?

Thanks,

Ken

Hmm... They took the page down...

I'm begining to think that the pentax lens roadmap is more of an advertising blurb than a real, actual working guide.

It looks like rebadged Tamron 18-250.

Yes, I think too its a rebranded Tamron 18-250

Some tests/reviews and samples with the Canon/Nikon version (the same Tamron 18-250 is made with K Pentax mount too)

Tamron AF 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II LD Aspherical [IF] macro (Canon)- Photozone Lens Test Report / Review
Tamron AF 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II LD Aspherical [IF] macro (Nikon)- Photozone Lab Test Report / Review

May be the Pentax 18-250 give the same results.

If I had bought my Tamron 18-250 2 days ago, I'd probably be putting it back in the box right now. But that's mostly because I wouldn't have seen how great a lens it is yet.

And it is a _GREAT_ lens. I got mine in July, and have taken a ton of shots with it and have been overwhelmingly happy with it's performance. I'm sure that's why Pentax has decided to invest in it's own future in the Tamron's optical formula. Performance-wise, I'd say it's better than my kit lens in every way, except maybe at 18mm, but it has _far_ more reach to make up for it's slight but noticable barrel distortion @ 18mm, compared to the DA18-55.

It's the lens I keep on my camera until I want something more specific, usually wider. And having that reach at a "twist of the barrel" has gotten me lots of shots I wouldn't have otherwise gotten. However, I'd love to see the same glass with Pentax SMC coatings, and perhaps even more importantly, a pentax lens hood that doesn't require an advanced degree in wrestling to get on and off. Compared to the hoods on my DA14, or my DA18-55, I can't believe how poorly the hood on the Tamron comes on and off. That said, I do admit I like the Tamron lens cap/cover better than any of my Pentax lens caps.

If the new Pentax has quickshift, too, I might even count myself as a little upset with myself for my lack of patience or over-abundance of LBA.

It must be part of their agreement that after Pentax starts selling, Tamron will stop making it with Pentax mount -- your lens will be a collector's item. So count yourself lucky

Well, I guess I'm too late, they already announced it ... Anyway, I work at a Camera shop and I was checking our stock books and we had a new Pentax lens in the books.

18-250mm price was 500. I'm thinking of getting it over the 16-50 or 50-135mm.

I wonder if I'll get in trouble for this

I was just getting ready to order the Tamron 18-250mm from Sigma4less or Buydig.com and now I don't know what to do. I need this lens very soon, but of course I'd rather have the Pentax than the Tamron. I wonder when it will be available. The road map says late October. Does anyone know any more details?

Well, it's in the warehouse. I'm not sure when it'll get to the store or ship to customers with pre-orders, but I'm guessing you should be able to get your hands on one before the end of October.
