Pentax 1:3.5-6.3, 18-250mm Lens

I have had this lens for some time now and while it did exhibit a bit of lens creep, lately it appears to be getting worse. I like the optics and find it a very useful utilitarian lens, but am getting pretty disgusted with the fact that when it is not in use, I have to lock it in to the 18mm position to prevent it from extending itself to the max zoom. Is there anything that can be done to reduce this severe lens creep?

I picked up a DA18-250 earlier this year and to slow down the creep had it cleaned and relubed with heavy grease by Eric at Pentaxs.com. It stiffens it up enough so you can shoot up or down without creep.

Since you are new to the forum, welcome! Eric is well known by most long time forum members.

Welcome to the Forum.

imtheguy gave you a good trick that I did not know.

In an earlier thread (about 10 months ago), another Pentax user recomended a rubber band (wrist band) to place around the lens zoom and stopping the creep. He was quite happy with the outcome.

When I bought my DA18-250mm, it had no creep. Now, one year later, it does have some slight creep.

However I love the lock. I shot often some dynamic subjects, and I often have to run with the camera, around the neck, to chase my subjects. I feel much safer to lock the lens in these situations.

Hope that the comment helps..
