This thread prompted me to take a closer look at my glass, and I find that I seem to have 8 2-ring preset lenses. (I set-up the database in the early days of my lens accumulation; its categories need updating, now that I know more. Ratz.) I hadn't before noticed a correlation between aperture presets and round or many-bladed apertures, and indeed it's not a strong correlation: some are, some aren't. Many non-2-ring presets have round diaphragms and more than 10 blades also. Anyway, mine are:

Mir-1 BV 37/2.8, 8 iris blades
Macro-Takumar 50/4 (1x), 8 blades
Jupiter-9 85/2 (M39), 15 blades
Opticam 135/2.8, 10 blades
Sunset Telephoto 135/2.8, 8 blades
Hanimar Preset 135/2.5, 13 blades
Jupiter-11 135/4, 11 blades
Tele-Takumar 200/5.6, 10 blades

And they're all fun, but I rarely actually *use* them as presets on my K20D. I'm more likely just to spin the control ring till I get an exposure I like. Simple-minded me...

That is what I do with my Jupiter-9 and Mamiya Sekor 60mm, it is a lot easier that way. Especially because my Jupiter likes to jam if I'm stopped down, so I can't move to a smaller aperture unless I open it back up and then change the preset. The Mamiya will allow me to go to a smaller aperture with just the control ring.

I have just won from Ebay a photopia 135mm f2.5 lens.It will arrive next month, is your copy good or bad?
I still have to put my copy of the lens back together. The step down ring was having issues not engaging the aperture control.

When I took it apart I found that the rod that engages the ring was not sticking out far enough. I had to find a very small washer to make it spacer the rod out far enough.

I just haven't had the time to finish putting it back together though.

cyclone3d...very brave to take one apart. I have a few of them.....I bought the 1957 83mm Takumar as a collector piece, basically thinking it was more of a novelty more than a lens that could stand up to today's quality. While it doesn't have the coatings I am surprised at the quality. For an f1.8 lens, it is so tiny and light.....

Here is the camera you would have purchased it with.....I was very lucky to have this one shipped from ebay straight to Eric for cleaning...

and it with k-7.....

The 83 is a little stiff focusing and Eric won't touch them. How difficult have you found it taking them apart?
