I think I'll pass, but it will be fun to watch how many bids come in the next 8 minutes.

There is a Porst 55mm F/1.2 at a local auction site. The price is about USD 140. Could this be the same lens as the Pentax (rebranded)? If yes, just tell me!!

I've got one of those (Pentax k 50). It's a lot of fun, but of little practical value, to be honest.

No, the Porst is the same as the Tomioka/Revuenon/Yashinon lens that you can find on Kevin's Cameras for $650. It is indeed a very nice lens, as good as the Pentax IMHO, with good contrast and color, even wide open. The bokeh is outstanding, but this has driven the price that people are willing to pay for the Tomioka version to insane levels. Fortunately, the Porst version is much less sought after, because it comes only in Pentax K mount, while the Tomioka comes in M42 mount, which makes it easier to adapt on various brands of DSLRs.

Here are some samples from the backyard, all taken wide open:

Cheers!

Excellent shots. Does that lens Auto Exposure, or is it a full "M" manual lens on the K mount?

I also saw on ebay that there is a 135 f1.8 m42 lens from Porst. Wonder how it compares?

The lens has no "A" setting, thus behaving like a plain Pentax "K" or "M" lens.

The 135/1.8 is much less interesting than the 55/1.2 (low contrast and not very sharp wide open) but it might do the job if you absolutely need a very fast medium tele, because there are not many other lenses to choose from, the Pentax 135/1.8 being horrifyingly expensive.

Cheers!

Boy I would have gobbled that up for under $300. I keep eyeing the KA 50 1.2 being sold by a Japanese dealer for $560. And having the A setting doesn't matter so much since I'd want to be shooting at f/1.2 all the time anyway.

Hi, i just recently bought a Revuenon 55 1.2 (aka Porst) and I must say that I love the build quality and compared to my Pentax SMC M 50 f2, it's alot sharper at all f-numbers. The bokeh is very pretty but one problem is blown-out highlights at wide open, sky's just blow up into white because at f1.2 even 1/4000 at iso 100 can't save the highlights :/

I think that the lens I have is totally underrated, I bought it second hand (but in new condition) for 65 euros (which would be about 90 dollars, right?).

I don't have any examples to show right now, sorry...

Nice shots, beautiful colors! However, porst's bokeh looks a little bit harsh, IMO.

You've got a great piece of luck. Usually they're much more expensive.

Super rare.... heh. Well I beleive they are still making the A version for the japanese market. Indeed last time I was in one of the major photo stores in Tokyo they had brand new A 50mm f1.2's sitting in the glass cabinet.

I agree with Serge the bokah of that 55mm is rather harsh, but I can't decide whether or not its a bad thing.

Certinly in traditional terms it dosen't have the silky smooth feel of "good" bokah but I kind of like the look, it adds some interest to the shots.

I don't know what do you all think?
