Good review Adam, very informative yet not too long.

Could I suggest a chart for the reported maximum aperture vs. focal length?

nice review...performance at f5.6 55mm for the new zoom vs the 18-55 is a huge improvement

I don't think this lens is aimed at people requiring good DOF control and if I need DOF control at shorter FL, a f2.8 zoom is not my first choice either.

I'd be fine if the review said "This lens is not aimed at people requiring good DOF control".

Do you see my point that the implicit suggestion that the use of high-ISO settings fully compensates for the relatively slow speed of the lens might be misleading for newbies?

Did you guys ever try taking it apart? Curious what the DC motor looks like compared to the SDM micromotor...

The DC motor is supposedly for low end lenses...

Please stop saying shallow DOF = good DOF control! They are two different issues. Usually getting control over DOF means getting enough of it.

Nice review, and this is definitely an upgrade for the kit.

I would, however, echo that a comparison to the 18-250 would be important. Other manufacturers of this focal range stumbled a bit because there was not an advantage over the longer superzooms.

Nice review, but I am in the process of trying to decide to sell my Tamron 18-250 and buy the new 18-135. Does anyone have an opinion on the image quality between the two in like focal lengths??

Marginally better is what I'd expect- and marginally faster, too. You should try some sample shots with the test chart and compare them to ours!
