Sigma 14mm/3.5 manual-focus lens

I picked this up recently at a good price.. but now I see why. Despite its 'A' setting and electrical contact, my copy of this lens will only shoot in M mode if you want something other than f/3.5 - and given the shots it took wide open

you really do. Sure is nice to have the wider image though, going past the 16-45 at times will be handy; I just need to retrain myself about how it's used.

Are you sure you've actually engaged the A setting? I've seen cases before where the linkage that moves the A pin breaks and so the A pin is always depressed and not in the more raised to the mount A position. That might be what's going on. How the IQ of the lens?

It's quite soft wide open, which is all it shot that 1st day

Later tests in M mode show it sharpens up nicely, though I wasn't rigorous about it. The A click feels solid and nothing shifts once engaged. Guess I will carefully unscrew the mount on a clean sheet of paper, and see what I can learn from the inside.
