you dont have a TC with your sigma by any chance..be nice to have someone test a K5 with a sigma 70-200 HSM II and a 1.5 TC...just to know if a K5 stops the hunting at the 200mm end with a TC bolted up..that would be another reason to like a K5 if it did sort it out

its supposed to way sharper too [OS} ...my HSM II is not that sharp
You may of received a poor copy (it happens). Wide open mines centre sharp but slightly soft at the edges. Stopped down it's a razor. There would have to be a significant improvement in IQ for me to give up my 'old' HSM II.

I bought a good condition Tamron 1.4x TC with the Pz contacts a few months ago because I decided to get this lens. I've only tried it indoors and indirect light [I estimated under EV14/13] it hunts... terribly ... uselessly. However it I use the always active focus clutch to get focus close, it usually snaps in.

Not having a real-world need for it yet, I have not tried it out again. I brought all my lenses into NYC for the near two weeks I'm spending here. I think tomorrow will be the day I put them all to the test on the K-5 using the view in the following link as my gauge for sharpness... and I'll be sure to try the Pz TC out as well.
My newest 20 portrait image pano I'm very happy with that I'm cross posting in most every thread I'm replying in... (that image I uploaded here is only about 10% the original's size)
p.s. The photos of that pano were taken with the HSM II version of the lens, used at 93mm, f/8, ISO80, top half were 1.6 sec exposures, bottom half were 2.5 sec exposures.

I tried it in less than ideal lighting and it still hunts in that. If I manually get focus close, it will lock-on.

Sorry, I don't understand the last sentence.

I have used the new Sigma 70-200 OS in Canon mount

It is excellent !!! I have posted my comments earlier in another thread. Please note that:

1) This lens is a completely new one. Improvements are not just in OS, but the entire optics is different

2) In my Canon 7D, it is sharp wide open. Center is already maximum at wide open and by stopping down to 3.5 4 the entire frame is at maximum sharpness

3) Very fast focussing (HSM is really good)

4) Lack of CA

5) Great bokeh
