I bought my husband the pentax slr k20d a few years ago,and now he wants a doubler lens for it. does anyone know if and where I could get him one?

I am assuming Mickey that what you mean is a Tele Converter (multiplies the focal length of the lense by the factor given, meaning usually x1.4, x1.5, x1.7, x2 or x3) ?

This is not an easy purchase to make because not all TCs work with all lenses. Also once you get to x2 the quality (and sharpness) of his shots will drop considerably. Value for money most people would recommend either a x1.4 (the Tamron is a good one and will work with most lenses) or a x1.5 (Kenko is the one to go for - again it works with many lenses). If you can get your hands on the PEntax AFA x1.7 is fantastic but expensive, ca. $350 and quite tough to get hold of.

Personally I'd tell your husband to get it himself - it's not something you should be buying without doing your homework first !

Sounds like a surprise Xmas gift!

How many lenses does he have? When he's out of the house, write down what they say on the front, so we'll know what focal length(s) or in layman terms, zoom capacity.

We can then recommend a new lens that fits needs and your budget, or a teleconverter.

As said, the price of the quality automatic teleconverter doesn't justify it for many people, when that same money will deliver a new lens.
