Tamron SP 2x converter

a local store has one of these in a K mount and I am going to see it in a couple of days, and was wondering if there is anything in particular I should be aware of. Any guidance welcome.

all I can say is what the guy in the store read on the converter itself. I know very little about converters, but I know the SP range is highly regarded and that is why I am interested. Plus it is at a good price. Is there a website which lists all Tamron products?

There are two models of Tamron Adaptall 2x teleconverter, the 01F and the 200F. The latter is very rare and commands high prices when it appears for sale. The 01F is very common and sells for cheap ($10-30). I got mine for free, because it came attached to a lens I bought on eBay.

This is a good converter but it is not very versatile. As it is fitted with an Adaptall mount, it works only with Tamron Adaptall lens. You will not be able to use it with any other lens you might own. I suggest you buy a Tamron 1.4x AF Teleconverter for Pentax AF instead. It is available new, the price is OK and it works with any lens, because it is fitted with a standard Pentax KAF mount.

Find everything about Tamron Adaptall lenses on this great site:
Adaptall-2.com

Chers!

I've got a 2x teleconverter for sale in the market place. It is in perfect condition (very rarely used). It's not an SP, but it is of the 7 element variety (rather than the cheaper 4 element ones). It is suitable for all KAF lenses, with the autofocus usable if the aperture is 4.5 or better (this is true of all autofocus teleconverters). Check it out if you're interested.

Thanks for the info. Just had a quick look and it is an impressive site. Just need to make sure it will work with my K 300 f4.

Sorry, I didn't read thoroughly the original post. I though it was about a Tamron Adaptall teleconverter. My bad, please ignore my precedent post.

Cheers!

abbazz,
it was listed as a SP, so you really did not make a mistake. i own all 3 models 140f, 01f, 200f. it's a shame these will work only on adaptall lenses as the 104f 1.4x and the 200f 2x are very good pieces of glass. the 01f is also great until you compare it to the 200f.
i also have a 2x mc4 that i'm actually happy with. not the best but it's the best 3rd party 2x i've ever had. hey, $10 delivered/ebay. same thing normally goes $50+. what kills me is the idiots that bid 69+ for this 2X as that's what it costs new at B&H or Adorama.. just my2¢

So Roy, sounds like it won't work on my Pentax glass.

not if it's the 140F, 01F, or the 200F.. tamron does have K mount 1.4x and 2x TCs that will work ... if you ever find a 200F tho GRAB it as it's incredibly rare.

Thanks for that, I'll check but it probably won't be the delicious one. How's the new Tamron doing? Had a hernia yet?

Update. Turns out it was an F system BBAR MC version, and the initial results are not bad at all on my K 300 f4. I may buy it as it's not much money, but I will probably buy a Kenko PRO 1.4x new.
