Pentax-A 50mm F1.2

Attached to a K series body listed on craigslist for $35.00. So I call the guy who says others have looked at the lens and described it as cloudy. Guessing fungus? Any thoughts?

Most likely- doesn't sound like it could possibly be a clean copy.

As good of a deal that it might otherwise be, I don't recommend buying it as the fungus might spread to your other lenses!

Darn shame given the online prices on that lens.

I've seen a few F2 lenses sold as F1.2's on craigslist...

Not buying this would be insane. Pay somebody to clean out the fungus and haze, you'll still have an excellent deal.

are you sure it's an A 1.2 , not an A 1:2 ? if you can provide pics, we may be able to verify it. price seems to be to good to be true, unless it's a garage sale where the seller has no idea on what he is selling.

You should pass. That is the A50/2.0, not the A50/1.2.

no worries, I know the feeling. I'm sure you got pretty excited and it's not that easy or almost impossible to get an A 1.2 for loose change.

The seller can’t spell either, so that would be another red flag!

No, Good. You learned something because this is a very common mistake. Even on ebay, sellers will offer a lens and mistake one for the other and even go so far as to use a stock photo for the 1:1.2. Unless they are showing, beyond a doubt, the lens offered, ask first.

Yes, I think it is now a common mistake especially at such price. of course, who wouldn't want one for $20-$50? hence, the excitement. can't blame them since I had undergone such mistake as well and got me a 50/2 before I got the real thing. the aperture marking were no help either (f2,2.8 are pretty much close to each other).

first thing I noticed is that were the missing 1.+ stops. I believe this is the only Pentax lens that is often mistaken a lot for another lens or it's slower counterpart. making it F2 would have helped a lot in identifying it easily and prevent any misconceptions from both buyers and sellers alike.

Only buy cloudy lenses if you really, really like soft, atmospheric pictures.

When a lens is listed as 1.2, check the size. Any 50/1.2 is rather larger than a 50/1:2.

I'll admit it -- I've suckered myself into buying a couple of 50/2's. What a dunce!

Never buy a lens at booze o'clock, no matter how good a deal it seems.
