I FINALLY nailed my Mamiya Sekor 55 1.4!!!

I've been dying for this lens since day one. It's the same lens I had on my Mamiya Sekor 1000DTL SLR in 1974, when I was 17.

59 bucks plus shipping:

MINT Mamiya/Sekor w/ Pentax M42 screw mt 55mm f1.4 lens - eBay (item 130460773457 end time Dec-01-10 14:43:00 PST)

I'm happy, happy, happy.

This lens comes as close to the magic of a Tak 50 1.4 as any other.

This is gonna be interesting. I'm dying to see what this one does on a DSLR.

It's hard to explain, but when I put this lens on, it's going to bring me back, in my mind, to places and scenes I shot from 1972 through 1974.

It's going to be a freaky time machine for me--not just a lens.

I'm with you Ira. I didn't have the 1.4 but I have a special fondness for my 500DTL. Built like a tank. I learned a lot toting around that piece of metal. I think I had a 2.0 50 and a 300MM cheapo telephoto. I took a lot of B&W and ektachrome photos in the late 70s with that setup.

This is brilliant....great to hear you've got a lens that is more than just a lens....I've always thought saying congratulations for a purchase doesn't make much sense, but to me it fits very well here....CONGRATULATIONS!

Please share some of the images.

Cant wait to see some test shots!
2 of my most used lenses are the 28mm 2.8 and 200mm 3.5 Mamiyar Sekor SX M42 modified for my Kx. Both has extraordinary sharpness and pictures just pops out great.
Would love to have a 1.4 some day. was yours SX or the older non dito?

Not an SX, which for their M42s, needs major modification to mount on the K-M42 adapter.

It's fun to see these Mamiya recollections here. My 500 DTL was my Dad's first camera and in turn became my first camera. I still use it for B&W work.

I have the 50mm f2 for it. It's an interesting lens. I've also owned the Sears 55mm f1.4 which is optically the same as the M/S 55mm f1.4 (both were made by Tomioka). It's on long term loan to the girlfriend right now. Optically, it was very close to my SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4. The Tak was stronger in some areas, the Sears in others. Both are very fine optics.

This was one of my favorites out of the 55mm:

Congratulations on your purchase! I can't wait to see some images from it!

Your image didn't show here.

PM me if you need help with this at all. It's pretty simple.
