M42 MIIDA 135mm f2.8 MC LENS

What is THIS thing? Anybody heard of it? Or do I operate on the principle of if it doesn't pop up with a google search, just turn on your heel and walk away from it?

Never heard of it. But I just gargled MIIDA LENS and see that MIIDA was a distributor of cheap glass, like Spiratone. So you're probably safe in assuming that any specific MIIDA-badged lens tends towards the weak end of the optics spectrum. If it's five bucks, go for it! At very least you can run a little experiment: Chip away at the glass to see how much damage is necessary to impact IQ.

I have one but haven't tested it out yet. I bought it mostly for its case. Mine is in perfect shape, so I will give it a try one of these days.
I might do a test against the Super Tak 135 f2.5

Yeah, I thought cheap was too good to be true (although far from $5.00), so I went for the Tak 105 for $80. I'm sure that's a much better investment in the long run!

Just got SMC Tak 55 f2 and loving the DOF. Hoping for some nice shots with the 105mm.

Those two Taks are great glass. The free market is 'tarded about the 55/2. With exactly the same optics, a 55/1.8 might fetch US$50 while a 55/2 won't sell for US$10. Go figure.

May I gloat here? At a straight-up eBay auction this week, I just got a ST 105/2.8 (with hood), ST 135/3.5, ST 55/2, and three non-Pentax lenses, all for US$104 shipped. Average cost is US$17.35 each. Not bad for the ST105, eh? The rest are surplus that I'll sell off. Profitably. (Well, the ST55 will hang around here until the market changes.) Gloat, gloat, gloat...

No-name glass can be good, but it should be cheap. I start my auctions at one buck because I have few illusions about what my excess glass is worth. The free market may say, THIS IS GREAT, or it may just fart in my general direction. The other three M42 lenses in the gloatable sale are a Sunset (possibly Tomioka) 135/2.8 (2-ring preset), a Sigma-XQ 39-80/3.5 'macro' (auto only), and a Sears 3x TC. Any of those might sell for US$2.50, or $25, or whatever. Ya just never can tell.

UPDATE: I'm gargle-researching another MIIDA lens and this thread pops up. My last post gloats about some lenses -- some I kept, some I sold. How did the sales go? Remember, each cost me an average of US$17.35 shipped. Sales results:

* Super-Tak 135/3.5 -- US$20.50 gross, $3.15 profit -- not too great
* Sigma-XQ 39-80/3.5 -- $30.00 gross, $21.65 profit -- much better!
* Sunset Tele 135/2.8 -- $21.50 gross, $4.14 profit -- better than Tak?!?!?

So six lenses cost me US$104 shipped, and selling three of them grossed US$72, so the other three cost me US$32 -- their price averages to less than US$11 each. Not bad for the SuperTak 105/2.8, eh? [/me gloats some more, is struck down for hubris, suffers terribly...]
