Does change in 18-55 WR elements matter?

Just out of curiosity... I got the 18-55 WR and like it quite a bit, but I see where the original 18-55 had 18-55 12 elements in 9 groups inc. 1 aspherical element but the new 18-55 AL/WR has 11 elements in 8 groups . Is this a step up, step down, step sideways or of no importance?

As far as I know, the AL II (on which the WR is based) was the improved version of the AL to be a better match to the 10MP cameras (K10D/K200D).
