Alternative lens cap for the 70mm f/2.4 limited?

I just got a Pentax 70mm f/2.4 limited lens. I can't wait to try it out.

One question though: the screw on lens hood + cap is nice, but seems like a waste of space indoors when I'm not concerned about glare. I can take it off, of course, but then I don't have a place to attach the lens cap anymore. I certainly want to protect the lens with a cap whenever possible, so does that mean I need to keep the hood on all the time, too, or are there alternatives?

The screw on thread looks like it might support other kinds of snap-on lens caps.
Has anyone tried this? What alternative lens caps do you recommend for a 70mm lens when going without the lens hood?

How's this one:

Put the supplied hood away. Add a 49-37mm and a 37-30.5mm step-down adapter to make a hood (a la DA 40mm Ltd.), and use a 30.5mm cap.

Why not use a 49mm clip-on lens cap?
