Sigma 100-300mm F/4?

Where can this lens be bought? It doesn't seem to be listed on B&H or Adorama (or any other site for that matter) as new, yet Sigma's own website lists it as in current production. Is it only available for mounts other than Pentax at this point? Thanks for the help!

Yep, it was discontinued in Pentax and Nikon mounts. Worth the effort, IMO, to find a nice used one, though. Sigma claims there is no replacement forthcoming, but who knows.

Thats a shame. I would much rather have the extra 100mm on the top end than the extra 30mm on the bottom that the 70-200 f/2.8 offers. I heard this is one of the sharpest telephoto zooms for Pentax. I'll have to keep my eye open (once I get some money that is). How much should I expect to pay for one of these in good condition?

There are probably others here that could give you better guidance on this, but my guess would be around $900-ish. I did see one selling for considerably less several weeks (maybe even months) ago, but it seems like something may have been missing or wrong with it.

I think the DA* 60-250 F4 would be the next closest lens, not the 70-200/2.8.

Used price could be $900-$1,000 (guessing here). You can do a search in the marketplace and see (that reminds me, why do people remove the pricing after the sale, which I never understood....anyhow, hopefully you can gather some info with a search)

I agree it's a shame. It's a very versatile lens, fast focusing, and very sharp even with the 1.4x TC. We can only hope that Sigma has an HSM or even a brand new version in the works.

Unfortunately with Sigma's recent track record there's no guarantee that a new version would even be as good, much less better.

I was planning on using it with the 1.4x TC whenever I get it. The Tamron I have isn't so great of a tele-lens. Way too slow and variable aperture (build also feels bad but thats what you get for a $100 lens).

Of course right now this is all fantasy, I will be spending my money this year on a K5 and a DA 40 Ltd. The K100D just isn't cutting it these days lol. Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.

I only wish I could buy it now...

So which is better IQ wise, the 100-300 or the DA* 60-250?

The weather resistance on the 60-250 would be nice, but I can deal with not having it if the 100-300 is better IQ wise.

It really is a tough call, Yesterday I thought I will sell the 60-250 when I get it and today I changed my plans. Especially because of the lower range and the 60-250 fitting into my possible lens range (12-24, 28-70, 60-250).

IMO, The two lenses are very close.

I'd agree, they are pretty close, IQ-wise. If I didn't already have one of them, I might go for the 60-250 just because you can still buy it new and I'm too anal to buy used (unless I'm buying from someone who is equally anal, and how do you know?). But I'm really pleased with my 100-300. It fits into my line-up perfectly and performs very well in all respects either with or without the 1.4 TC. It may be a bit larger than the 60-250, but I think I'd miss the extra reach, and I know I'd hate the way the 60-250 barrel extends when zooming. Plus, for me, if I had the 60-250, then the 50-135 would start to feel redundant and I love that lens (except for the comparatively slow AF). The 50-135 is easily hand-holdable and carry-able, the longer lenses not so much, at least to me. So I wouldn't want to give that up.

Well maybe if you decide to sell yours in a few years I'll have the money to buy it knowing you are anal and take care of your gear, so it will be almost new lol.

Looks like pcarfan may be selling his 100-300. I would bet he takes pretty good care of his gear, too.
