Reversing a DA 40mm Ltd.

Is this possible? What kind of magnification could I expect?

I think, that it's not possible due to the lens hitting the pop up flash mount. I believe I tried this with my DA 40 on my K10/k20 with a reversing ring. Honestly, the best lenses for this that I've tried is an FA 50.

What you get from reversal is a flat-field, close-work lens. Close, like 45.46mm, which is the lens register (flange focal distance). You'll get that same working distance by reversing ANY Pentax-compatible lens of any focal length.

Magnification results from extension, not reversal. A reversed lens with a deeply inset objective will show some magnification, because that inset acts as extension. Otherwise you need to add extension such as macro tubes behind the mount-reversal adapter.

Sorry, I don't know how to calculate the magnification you get with simple reversal. With enough extension, you'll clear the flash snood. Macro tubes are cheap. Give it a whirl.

The DA does not have an aperture ring, right? That might be an issue, you'd have to wire the aperture lever open or you're stuck at f22.

If FA50 doesn't hit flashmount how could DA40 do so?!?
I believe it's possible but yoy will have to tape the aperture lever in open position as suggested. Otherwise you have f22 and very dark VF.
