Pentax K135/f2.5 vs Vivitar TX 135/f2.5?

Hi all - I'm having an opportunity to buy a K135/f2.5 for about $250, I know it's not a bargain but considering it's almost mint I would think the price is OK. Based on the reviews here on PF, everyone thinks it's a great lens but my concern is does that justify the price being 5x the price that I paid for my Vivitar TX (K mount) 135/f2.5 which also an excellent lens?

Anyone has both lenses and can do a quick test shots?

Any feedbacks are welcome!

I've never owned any of those two. But from personal experiences I'd always pick SMC coated lens over it's 3rd party counterpart. Those coatings do make difference. And, as well, when times get rough the SMC lenses will have (usually) much better resale value so it's bit safer investment IMO.

I don't have the vivitar but I have 4 135mm lenses including the K135F2.5 which is the best by a long margin. The others I have are SMC Tak, 135F3.5, Tele-Lentar 135F2.8 Preset, and an XR Rikenon 135F2.8

The rikenon is not a great lens suffering from internal reflections (now fixed) between shiny metal parts at the rear of the lens and the sensor, as well as being 1 stop slower at each aperture than my other 135's

The tele lentar and SMC tak are about equal, although to be fair, I have not compared them head to head for flare.

The biggest issue, and the reason I woulf opt for a K135F2.5 is the coatings and prerformance against flare.

Pentax coatings from that era were so far advanced to the rest of the market that they really do stand out.

I have about 20 135mm lenses (oops how did that happen?), and the K135/2.5 is the 2nd best of these, only beaten by the A*135/1.8. I don't think a Vivitar TX (probably Tokina made?) can compete with that. Though the price is a bit high. Does it come with original caps, hood and bag?

You're right. The Vivitar TX is Tokina made. No, the K135 doesn't come with hood and bag. I'm pretty sure it's better than the Vivitar but the question is really "does it really worth that much?" Like you, I have over 20 135mm lenses (yes I have serious LBA issues) but I'm really tempted to get the lens that everyone has been raving about.
