Tamron 28-300mm new purchase

I had asked others what to do with my lens purchase. Many recommended the Pentax 50-200, which was quite enticing, and some other 70-300 lenses. I decided on a lens that was described as "evil" by one person. I chose the Tamron 28-300 from Cameta. (I know it is not the sharpest, nor the fastest, but I have been enjoying the range it offers. See my recent sports post to see what I did the first weekend.)

I think this will give me a nice single lens solution to take to my kids sports events.

Here is the UPS driver driving away.

The lens unboxed. Doesn't it look cute?

Here is the first shot, at 28mm, with another at 300mm right after it.

Here is one more I took last night out in the country, as the sun was going away quickly.

Jeff,

The pictures look nice, and sharp. I'm looking forward to see more picture.

Do you have any full-resolution crop from the center, and the corner?

Thanks,

No, I've not done the full crops for comparison yet. I have to go on a trip, so will take more pictures for fun while I'm gone. Maybe when I return, I will compare. Unless you just want me to send you the originals?

I'm seriously thinking about getting the same lens. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you and where did you get it? Nice shots by the way.

I got it for about $170 at Cameta online. (I bought it through the Amazon.com link). It took a few days to get it processed, but delivery was very fast.

I am glad you like the shots. I went to to a MLB baseball game this week and had a lot of fun with it again!

I'll have to remember that. It will probably be around Christmas before I can get one (I just got the K100D two days ago ). This is my first ever DSLR and I've got a lot to learn. I'm also on a tight budget, so this lens looks pretty appealing to me. I'm coming from a super-zoom P&S which had a 12X zoom out to 300mm (film equiv). I really like having that "reach" for sports and wildlife shots. Thanks for the info!

I just posted some shots from the baseball game in the sports gallery. (I figured since I asked there to be a sports gallery, I should contribute)

All of these are using the Tamron lens and a very high ISO. I am happy with the lens, considering it is less than a 1/3 the cost of other lenses out there. It fits my little old birthday budget for myself. I don't know what my next lens will be, so I will probably cool it, or try one of those manual 50mm lenses.

This, too, is my first DSLR. It is fun!
