Pentax A 50mm f2.0

It's not the best fast 50, I know but I just snagged this off craigslist. It came attached to a broken k1000 (Posted about that in the film forum, could use some help to know if it's worth trying to fix), and while dirty, appears to be in near mint condition. I just played with it on my K-x, and it metered like a charm.

This is my first "A" lens, so I am pretty happy. I have the M f1.7. In your experience, what is the main difference in quality?

The reviews here said at 2.8 and above it is very sharp. The seller said she got it about 1990.

the 1.7 is considerably sharper. the f2 is warmer. having said that, the f2 is way above the kitlens in terms of resolution. so it's not a bad lens, as long as you are not comparing it against it's much faster siblings.

I owned both of them, but still own the M 1.7. That says something about my preference of the 2--I would not get rid of the 1.7--far too great a value in my book. The biggest advantage I see is more sharpness @ larger apertures.

You might want to consider selling the A 2.0 and M 1.7 lens to buy an A 50mm 1.7.

I just sold my FA 50 1.4, because I saw very little improvement over the rather good 50mm 1.7. The A feature is very handy IMHO, and your A 2.0 should see some good use in lieu of an A 50mm 1.7.

My exact experience as well.

Don't get me wrong...the A 50/2 is a good lens and the A feature is great. Just that I prefer the look (of the lens itself) and build quality of the M more. And I like that little bit of extra speed, in a smaller package to boot.

I am getting pretty tired of the M's PF wide open, however Even my way older Sears 55/1.4 doesn't have any PFing...but what would I replace it/them with in K mount for around the same price, you know? :ugh:

I have the A50 and it's the fastest lens I own. I started using it for product shots, and for some reason it keeps staying on my camera. I really like the look and feel of it on my k7 and I really like the photos I get back. It's making me feel like I want more/better primes. As in recording music, having limitations almost always fosters creativity more than having more options. I just wish more of the primes were weather sealed.

Played with it some, and ended up with this;

Which I thought was nice and decently sharp.
Pentax K-x
Exposure 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture f/2.8
