How may people use a filter to protect their lens? what's your favourate?

The only Hoya filters I use are the Pro1 protective filters.. They have I think 12 layers.. I have tested and retested them and can't detect any real difference from using them.. Neither resolution, nor ghosting.. There was a VERY slight flare increase in extremely suseptable sitautions, but nothing that would worry me..
