Why no love for Sigma 12-24mm?

I've been looking through the wide angle threads and there is no mention of this lens.

it scored really well on photozone tests and to top it off it is a FF lens (and I shoot film sometimes) so there is an option of shooting reeeaaally wide on film.

Does anyone have it (tried it) and has some comments?

How expensive is it? Probably it's only squeezed between the faster original lens from Pentax and the cheaper yet fairly good Sigma 10-20, older or newer version....

it is huge, heavy and discontinued. also, it was expensive back then costing around $1000 or more.

other than that, it is a great lens. it's not really because no one loves it. if you can handle it and have the money, then get it.

It will surely get some love if Pentax will give birth to FF... but for now there are lighter, smaller and cheaper alternatives...

I sold my Pentax 12-24mm f4 due to lack of use but soon missed its focal length. Bought a Sigma for virtually half the price and have to say it may be slower but it's just as sharp. Excellent lens.

The Sigma 12-24mm is a sharp lens but due to the highly curved front element there's no way to attach a filter as there no front filter threads. While you could use gel filters to the rear of the lens while it's removed from the camera, that makes it a big limitation for landscape shooters who need to use polariser, ND or GND filters.

my guess would be the $850 price tag vs the $450 for the wider 10-20... but if pentax had a FF that 12-24 would be awesome... that would be freaking 8mm eqiv on the crop sensor ... for those that shoot film I can understand... but a medium format film camera would prob get wider for cheaper

You can attach a filter to it actually using the ring(hood?) provided, that slides over the actual hood. But you can only use it from 16mm apparently, otherwise it vignettes.

thereby, rendering it useless from 12-14mm.
