45mm FILM

Hello,
I'm looking for a good 45mm lens that will work on film. I shoot on a KX and Spottie, so M42 or K is fine. K is SLIGHTLY preferred. I've used some absolutely superb 55mm lenses, but I really love the 45mm lenses of older, fixed, rangefinders. Something with that angle of view on my SLR would be absolutely amazing. Any recommendations?

*Edit*
My KX is the older, film KX. The k1000 with DOF preview and timer.

The only 45mm I've managed to acquire is a Chinon Auto 45/2.8 in KM mount. Neat! Sharp! And just US$14 shipped.

Next closest is a Meyer Helioplan 40/4.5 in Exakta mount (US$13), easily adapted to PK -- glue a M39-M42 ring around the Exakta bayonet, grind ~0.6mm from the flange of a cheap Bower-type M42-PK adapter (I used 100-grit sandpaper), screw together and shoot.

A dedicated lens-hacker might pull the Yashinon 45/1.7 lens from a Yashica Electro 35 GSN and mount it on an M42 helicoid or a trashed lens body. But I don't want to kill my Yashica. Maybe if I get some junker rangefinder...

This MINOLTA MD ROKKOR-X 45MM 1:2 is currently at US$1 with 0 bids and US$7 shipping. This *might* be adaptable to PK by removing its base aand replacing it with a wide-flanged M42-PK adapter, or the body might need a little grinding to reach infinity focus.

A bit kinkier: this Isco Optic PC-ULTRA-AV 45/2.8 projector lens might be adaptable by sticking it into a cheap PK macro tube set. I've done similar with a Schneider 60mm PC projector lens. No iris, so shoot wide-open, or cut Waterhouse stops from construction paper.

The Pentax FA43 Ltd is in the US$600+ range. Ouch. And it's overkill for a K1000.

There's the old Chinon 45mm f/2.8 which you can find used. There are some reviews here on the forum.

43mm is close enough, but it would also cost more than all my equipment combined. It's a little bit outside my budget at this point. I was kind of hoping for something a little bit less expensive.

SMC 45-125mm F4

If zoom is in your consideration, I would recommend Pentax SMC 45-125mm F4. IQ is on par with 75-150mm, which is excellent. I believe you can find one under $100.

So how do you expect to use a K lens on the Spottie?

You can't.

He says he wants a 45 that will work with film.

Look at the title of his thread.

Yes, I understand. But, I shoot both cameras regularly, so I can easily use a lens in either mount. Naturally an M42 lens would go on the Spotmatic and K mount lens would go on the KX, but I would be able to use either type. The reason I'm leaning slightly towards K is because the KX is new, and I only have one K lens. I'm genuinely not trying to be argumentative about this, I have a superb K camera and a superb M42 camera, so I'm open to a lens in either mount. I see what you're saying, but I don't understand what you're getting at, besides that K mount lenses don't fit M42 cameras.

Nothing to do with being argumentative, but if you reread your original post, you specifically asked about a 45mm for your film/your Spottie, in either K or M42.

Based on that reading, it looks like you thought a K would work on the Spottie.

I should've specified that I meant the film KX from the start, sorry. Anyways, fixed that in the OP. I can see where KX caused some confusion. Sorry about that, then.
