I'm Lovin My DA 18-135mm

No technical tests to post, but I've had this lens on my K-5 now for a couple weeks shooting like crazy and this is definitely the best "walkaround" lens I've ever seen. I thought the DA 17-70 was excellent as a kit lens upgrade, but the 18-135 is that and more. AF is silent and quick, IQ is very nice, zoom range is perfect for almost everything I do, and the lens speed is fine given the K-5's excellent high ISO performance and Lightroom 3's improved algorithms for noise reduction.

This is a truly outstanding enthusiast lens!

Haven't used it myself, but it sounds strong and covers a great range of focal lengths.

I just picked mine up yesterday and it sure performs quite well in the box. I just can't wait to see what it does out of it!

I am also impressed with the 18-135. Colors are fantastic, and the zoom range is very useful. This may sound strange, but I like the image quality of this lens over the 50-135. I just never was impressed with my copy of that lens.

Trying the 18-135 out as I type; Fantastic.

On my K-r the AF is so quick, the IQ is so good, and that AF, oh.....

This is a no brainer for me:

I shoot all the old manual stuff, but I HAVE to have this lens to do the occasional party and redneck wedding.

We're talking around 500 bucks in the U.S., correct?

@lawsonstone: you beat me to it. I was going to start a thread about this awesome lens. I got mine on Christmas eve.

I would note that the AF is incredible on the Kx too. Silent, fast, accurate, no hunting even in low (for me) light. The focal range is what sold it to me. The colors and IQ are fantastic too. Great for capturing shots of the kids while running around. My kids always seem to know how to quickly move in and out of the plane of focus. The AF can keep up without problems.

I will try to find time to post some images
