Zoom for K7

I am stuck in trying to choose a zoom for my k7. It is between:

Pentax 55-300 f/4-5.8 ED
Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro Autofocus
Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 DG OS Telephoto Zoom

PLease explain your choice. Will the sigma with the Macro be as sharp at 300 as the others? My other lens is Pentax 18-55. Thank you

There's also the Tamron 70-300. You should check the PF lens review section and also Photozone. Good luck

There are truly about 10 threads on the comparisons of these lenses. They all conclude about the same way - the Pentax 55-300 has the best image quality for new budget zooms lens at $350 or less.

What SpecialK said. The Pentax 55-300 is in another league .... even more so when the low price for a lense of this quality is considered. As someone else said the other day - the best value lense in the whole Pentax range.

Just do a search on here for a dozen more threads on this lense.

When I was looking for a lens in this range, I rented the Pentax 55-300. I found it soft at the long end, perhaps it was that particular copy. I ended up buying the Tamron 70-300 LD Di Macro for around $175. It's a good lens for the price.

Best 'o luck in your search.

Maybe you had a bad copy as you suggested iCrop, or it had been damaged by a previous renter.

I've had the Pentax 80-320, then the Tamron 70-300 LD Di Macro (still in the cupboard but unused now) and now the Pentax 55-300. Whilst the Tamron is very capable of sharp shots (and the 1:2 macro is a great asset to have without changing lenses) there is absolutely no doubt the 55-300 is streets ahead ... there are many threads on different forums that endorse this fact.
