I'm yet to see a wide zoom without quite a bit of barrel distortion at the short end. With Pentax DA lenses there is the option to straighten it in the camera, though.

IQ of 18-55mm wr vs 18-135mm wr in the rain?

My main walk around lens is a sigma 17-70, use it for landscapes and waterfall shots etc. I usually put it away when there is light rain or around waterfalls/rivers that have too much water spray. However often it gets some water on the front element while taking pics.

I'm heading to fiordland in Feb and thinking of getting either the 18-55 or the 18-135mm as it rains quite a bit there and I'll likely be in and around big waterfalls.
Thinking that IQ tests may not matter too much once they have any water on them so the much cheaper 18-55mm may suffice when it's wet and then I'll have the sigma 17-70mm for when it's dry.

If the 18-135 is better than the sigma tho, then I'll get that and enjoy the added range...

How much of a price drop would ppl expect over the next few weeks? Abe's has it for $450 atm vs b&h $499

Or in DCU (automatically), or with LR 3.3.....It is getting to be much less of an issue.
