Think about it, actually the plastic mount might be better than metal mount when accident like that happens.I know some friends had similar accident w/ metal mount lenses, ended up had to change part of the lens barrel instead of just the mount plate. It's much more costly than just change a plastic mount...

Thats a good point. So - now how about changing the metal mounts with plastic mounts on all our other lenses

Glad I found this post. I just picked up a 55-300 off of Ebay that has a broken mount - for really cheap. It hasn't arrived yet, but at least I know the mount is really cheap to replace.

I already submitted an online support request for the price list and breakdown, so hopefully they get back to me soon.

And since the recent change to Ricoh, who knows if the contact information for the previous person will work. I'll update once I get more info.

Changing Mounts

I was dumb enough to replace the 55-300mm lens mount with the same mount on the 18-55.
Surprisingly, after several tries, it actually worked.
Now I have an 18-55 to deal with

So I finally received the mount today. It took forever to get ahold of Lynn in the parts department.

I had tried calling 3 or 4 times, and had one of the online chat people send her an email about it. She still never tried to contact me. I finally called into pentax customer support and they contacted her and she finally called me back.

The parts are done through a 3rd party, and it seems like they are understaffed.

In any case, the mount was $6.72 Shipping was $8.50 which seems really high to me, but whatever.

After all was said and done, I have a DAL 55-300 that cost me a total of $63.22 :-D

User 'PRS' has posted a way to replace the plastic mount with a metal mount on this link, but it sounds too complicated for me (also, I am not that handy), so I am going to skip it.

Thanks for this post (and thread). I recently bought a 55-300mm DAL with broken mount. Remembering that I had a 28-70mm f4 FA lens with terminal lens separation in the rear group, I pulled the metal mount and wonder of wonders it fit perfectly onto the DAL. The light baffling which is attached to the metal mount did not fit however. It seems that the baffling is attached via the same 3 tiny screws on all the remotely recent lenses that I looked at though. Finally found a 18-55mm that had what looks like the same size baffling and installed that for now. I did not have to alter the plastic strip on the metal mount from the DA 28-70mm, metering, focus and flash exposure are fine. Seems to work as intended. Here's the result:

I have a 55-300 with the metal mount and an 18-55 with the plastic mount. The 18-55 came as a kit with my K-m. I'm old fashioned, but I shy away from plastic mount lenses.

But on the other hand I have to say many of my digital lenses incorporate a lot of plastic into the lens body and so far (touch wood) I haven't had a plastic failure in a lens, but for the mount I would still prefer metal mounts.

I will copy my post here to for the search engines, if it isn't approved please delete it

I had mine DA L 18-55 dropped too and the screw threads dropped off, the AF wasn't working because of that.
Today I had an DIY idea and it works!!

1. the plastic sheets cut off from some cheap packaging plastic
2. punched a holes wide enough to push a screw through, but tight enough not to let the head of the screw to pass through
3. tighten the screws - the plastic just holds the mount and the screws close together, it's thin enough for screws to go in and dont scratch the camera mount and it's softer than metal so it can't damage your camera

Ok, I received the part via UPS yesterday and replaced the mount last night. The lens works now. The most difficult part is to make sure all the gold contacts are being lined up correctly when putting on the Bayonet ring.
how do you keep the springs in place. What holds the springs in the body of the lens. There are 6 of them right? A grouping of two and a grouping of three. In the grouping of two, a spring fits between the mount and the body. Bewildered!
