Pentax A 50mm f 1.2 on Ebay

Hi, this lens is on my 2011 LBA list. I notice that there is focusing screw insert in the mount which for an A series lens puzzles me. The mount is exactly the same as my SMC F 28mm f 2.8 lens. So is this a FA 50mm f1.2?

No that is a manual focus 50mm 1.2 lens. Commonly called KA mount. It would have been a prime lens in its time and is still a quality lens.

Maybe I am out of touch but that that price seems high to me.

Actually I think that is a pretty good price. The "K" 50mm F1.2 are going for around 300 USD so spending an extra 80 for the auto aperture function isn't bad. Besides, the "A" is supposedly superior to the "K" version. I have the K and it is a great lens.

That second picture MUST be wrong. It shows the focus screw for the old standard "body drive" autofocus which the "A" lens should not have. Send a question to the seller before seriously bidding (IMHO).

Yep, it's wrong - the rear element of the f/1.2 is much larger than that on the 2nd picture.

Second picture is most definitely wrong, besides the focus screw that rear lens element is very much too small to be a 50/1.2.

That's a pic from his listing for the F 50/2.8 macro.

Good catch!

The A 50 1.2 generally goes for between $400-$500 US, I think. That one seems to be in really good shape (assuming the real mount isn't hiding for a reason! )

I've asked the seller about the photo, so I'll let you know the response. It's a bit wet in Queensland at the moment, so the pigeon may be late getting through.

Cheers

Just happen to have a photo of the rear element of my K50mm F/1.4 here. It is on the left, the lens on eBay on right:

Aha, I see that you are on the case as well Rob. I checked

Welcome to Bojidar Dimitrov's Pentax K-Mount Page

and couldn't match the mount with the lens.

Probably just mix up of mount photos. Nice lens though

Check out the F 50/2.8 from the same seller:

Pentax F 50 f2.8 macro - Pentax's Sharpest Lens (eBay item 250748866131 end time 08-Jan-11 21:45:52 AEDST) : Cameras

Mystery solved!

But it's good to let the seller know anyway.

In its time? It is still in production. You can buy it new "assembled in Vietnam".

It appears it was out of production, then came into production again. It has been discussed on the forum quite a lot.

Edit: I'm not sure how related it is, but the same thing happened with the F-1.7x autofocus adapter (converter). All of a sudden after being out of production and out of stock for a long time, there appeared "assembled in Vietnam" copies.

Anybody know what a new one is selling for? Nice to know the price has bounced back.
