Takumar-A Zoom 1:4 70-200mm

I have a new K-r. My friend has this older lens used on a film Pentax. The lens says exactly what I wrote in the title. It's over 15 years old.

Through searches, I read this lens has a KA mount and would auto focus or manual focus if I attach it to my camera. Is that true, even though it's such an old lens?

It's not one of the type which might get stuck, is it? I read some of them can cause a big problem, I'm prettty sure that's the non K or KA type.

Is there anything else I should know, or just try it out?

Go ahead. It should work in all modes. Of course it won't autofocus
I have the same lens and use it on my K20D with no prloblems. It's not a heavy lens so you can tote it for a while without tiring.

ahm, I'm not familiar with the K-r, but on my K20D, I had to go to the Menu and enable use of aperture ring. Please check your manual for specifics on using Manual Lenses. Also you have to set focal length on the menu for SR to work properly. And on my K20D I have to set focusing to manual. Otherwise sometimes the shutter won't trip. That's about it.

With regards to the SR:

Do a search here on the forum as there have been some discussions what the 'best' value is when entering the focal length for SR with a zoom lens. Or switch SR off when using that lens.

Quite right to bring up the subject of what focal length to input - it's not at all obvious as to what value you have to input for a vintage zoom lens.

I did some work on this problem here:

You'll get the best SR if you match the value to the actual focal length setting of the lens, but that could get very tedious (and difficult). If you don't want to keep changing the value, the best compromise value for your lens would be 100mm, which gives you full SR at 100mm, down to about 1 stop of SR at 70mm and 200mm.

I wouldn't advise inputting a value greater than 100mm, unless you're avoiding use of the lens at the wider end.
