I have the 55 - 300 and am not very happy wit it. I find the AF a little off most of the time and contrary to what \i read in reviews of this lens, the IQ leaves a lot to be desired, except in a fairly narrow mid range.

I can buy a 100 - 300 FA ( the silver one) and from what \i have seen in reviews it is a very sharp lens. I have two other FA lenses (28 - 300 powerzoom and 50mm 2.8 1:1 macro) and both are outstanding, especially the 50mm.

Has anyone comments on the two telephotos (the DA and FA), especially a comparison?

I've had both a DA L 55-300 and the FA 100-300 4.7 and found them to both be surprisingly high IQ lenses in their price ranges. You may have a slightly under par 55-300

I, too, was wondering about this very lens and how it compares to the 55-300. For what it's worth, I suspect you may have a bad copy if what you're seeing in your results do not match up to the reviews. Any chance you could post some examples?

I'll post some samplels when \i get home to my computer in about a month or so - I'm travelling without my 55 -300 - instead \i brought along my F 70-210 for longer shots. I, too, suspect that \i landed with a sub-par example for a lens
