If they're asking for any more than you'd pay in the US wait a little while.

The reason for this is that Pentax Canada is actually listing the suggested retail price of the new 18-250 as the same as in the US. ($499.95)

My local shop figures that they might adjust all their prices to compete with the US

Yeah no immediate need for me - the 16-50 is $944 and 50-135 is $1227 so more than US counterparts for sure. First Canadian place I have seen them in stock so I suppose that is a good sign.

Kudos to you if your local shop will match US prices. I am not sure which if either of those lens I want yet - might opt out for a long prime for now I am ok.

All realtive I guess the 300mm f2.8 smc FA ED IF Lens is a mere $7,245.63

Well Henry's in Toronto seem to have them on the shelf now for a while. Albeit somewhat dusty lol. They are a bit expensive and its not like the majority of Pentaxians here in toronto have that kind of money to throw around.

I was playing with the 50-135 a couple weeks ago at my local shop, I can't wait to have that one as my own over my shoulder, but I'll be horn swaggled if I am going to buy from them. $1300 vrs $900 is just too great for me to support my local shop. As my local shop manager and I have been friends since /83 he knows where my loyalty lies, but he also understands that when I am prepared to lay my money down for that lens the current discrepancy between him and his US competition is just too lopsided. I am a firm believer in supporting my local economy, and I mean my home town, not just my country, but not the way it sits now with that lens. I am hoping that somebody at Pentax wakes up before I do finally purchase the lens.

Haha I'm happy with my XR Rikenon 135mm f2.8 for the time being until I get another job. That newly annouced Tamron SP 70-200 f2.8 XR Di looks tasty.
