Tokina 80-200/f2.8 manual focus lens

Hi all,

I have a chance to get Tokina 80-200/f2.8 manual focus lens (K mount) for AU$250. It has a tripod mount and is a push-n-pull zoom. Two questions:

1. Is it a good lens?

and

2. Is the price a good price?

Thanks

Kenny

Have a look at Olympus OM System Lens Tests. There must be resolution figures out there. Also you might be intrested in comparison against similar Tamron (at the foot of the page). Price seems to be quite reasonable (according to SPLOSdb).

The only issue with pusn-n-pull zooms is that some times they will not hold focal length when mounted vertically.

I have a vivitar Series 1 (first version) which is excellent, but the zoom collar slides when I mount if verticallly

I owned a copy of this lens, and for the price, it is a great lens. It is not as good at 200mm as the Sigma or Tamron versions, and contrast suffers at 2.8. But, for the price, it is a great lens. Also, it did not suffer from zoom creep as many push/pull type zooms do. I will try to dig up a couple of sample pics and post them this afternoon...

Thanks for all your replies guys!

I think I will pass on this time as I am thinking of upgrading my DS to K100D soon. And I guess I don't really "need" it but it is very tempting to have a constant f2.8 telephoto zoom lens!

If anyone else is interested, the shop is "Camera Lane" in Melbourne, Australia. You can find their contact detail from yellowpages.com.au

cheers
Kenny
