Whats good for ringside fights?

Considering the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8

In this case, i was at ringside during a indoor muay thai novice tournament.

I used a Tamron 28-105 for the following but was too slow even at iso 6400. These are the shots that i like to take. Which of the two would be suited for my style of ringside photography with a K20D?

also are there any pointers for photographing MMA cage fights in harsh indoor lighting conditions?

Because of the working distance I would go with the 24-70, but I have no experience with that lens.

You would do well with an external flash, pointed at the fighters, with a diffuser attached. It should help even out the light coming from above. I also would rely on TV mode.

If you can't use a flash... I'm not sure .

The HSM on the 24-70mm would be helpful. I would recommend the K-5...

I was going to suggest a towel.

I think 24-70 might be the better option.

problem being whether i can use the 24-70 at f/2.8 or do i have to step down further in comparison to the 17-50 thats usually sharp even at f/2.8 wide open.

Tried the 50mm f/1.4 which is more then bright enough but too cropped when shooting ringside and in a lot of cases for some reason doesnt lock focus when subject is at the other side of the ring. The 28-105 did however.....something in th design?

FA 50mm 1.4 is not great for autofocus.
