Sorry if this has been asked before, but can anyone tell me if the silver finish on the FA77 Limited is silver paint, or if it is an anodised finish?

I think I would prefer the silver version in principle - but not if it is an obviously painted finish like Pentax used on some of their 1990s cameras and lenses.

Anodized. I know because I put a ding in mine and there was absolutely no paint flaking or chipping. Actually, this is sort of a "feature" of the silver version - any nicks in the finish are much less noticeable over time. This is compared to my DA35 Ltd, which has a black anodized finish and has a few minor nicks that are much more noticeable.

Yeah I had a silver 43 Ltd for a short while, and the finish is pretty impeccable if you like the silver. I think I personally prefer the black, but to each his own.

Regardless, the finish is phenomenal.

FA* lenses from the 90's up into 2005ish had the soft silver finish. Whether it's paint or not I don't know, but it's fairly easy to mar. The FA Limiteds have the most durable finish I've ever experienced on a lens. Yes, probably anodized, but it's practically as durable as if it were glass beaded texture in the aluminum itself. You won't be disappointed with the durability of the finish on the silver limiteds.
