Nice ones. Now I'm on the phone but once on PC I'll post my comparison shots between DA* and K50/1.2. If you can't wait, go through DA* club thread. They are somewhere there

It was a tough one.
The DA* has tad better sharpness wide open and better contrast, but the K has better bokeh all the way from 1.2 to 5.6. It seems that guys at Pentax went bit over the top with corrections with the DA*55 and as results the OOF rendering suffers quite a bit IMO.

To show what I mean a quick set of pics:

DA* @1.4

K50/1.2 @1.2

K20/1.2 @1.4

These are 100% crops.
The figurine on the right side was the focusing point.
Please notice the highlight circles on the left and the part of the figurine right above the focus point. On both f stops the "old lady" wins IMO...
OTOH, browsing that thread reminded me that I should get the 50-135 first as I don't have anything longer than 70 at the moment… after that I can look at the DA* 55 again. Oh LBA, will there ever be a cure?

The DA*50-135 is an excellent lens. Much like the DA*55, it's not the quickest when it comes to AF, but the IQ is outstanding. It's a nice size too, when compared to something like a more conventional 70-200/2.8.

No cure that I'm aware of, I just my severe case of LBA run it's course.

Now I'm in the recovery stage, trying to figure out which lenses to keep and which ones I can let go of.

In pretty much every comparison between the DA55 and 50mm f/1.2 the f/1.2 typically comes out on top. Sure it isn't as sharp wide open but I'll wager it is sharper in the corners than the DA lens at f/4.
