Tokina APO 28-70mm f/2.8 AF AT-X worth it for $340 ?

Hello from Maine

I am selling all my Nikon and other gear and going 100% Pentax and compatible I especially like Pentax's commitment to their legacy glass.

So I'll have a K2000 body at first and I'm sure others eventually, it's the lenses that last for a long time not the bodies, right ?

I was thinking of getting one good "wedding lens", I've found the Tokina APO 28-70mm f/2.8 AF AT-X lens for $340 delivered.

Should I jump on it or wait for something else to come along ?

I think that lens along with a 50/1.4 and an 18/3.5 and a 135/2.8 would be great an event including a wedding, what do you think ?

Thanks,
Craig

that's about average price for that one (it's pretty popular across all brands of camera)... but in fact more people are going toward the 17-50 for similar price. and on a crop sensor the 17-50 is a more usable lens (especially for weding group pictures). IMO the only time you would have to take off the 17-50 for a faster lens is portrait, other wise it'd be the lens that get super glue on your camera for most of the time.

In that focal length range, I think it would be really tough to beat the Tamron 28-75/2.8 (or consider the Tamron 17-50, as clockwork247 pointed out above). It's about the same price used (maybe even a little cheaper) and also available new for a little bit more. It's a fantastic lens, sharp wide open, and fairly compact and lightweight given it's range and aperture (the Tokina is about 50% heavier).

if i'm not mistaken, tamron made some stuff for pentax and let pentax slap on the label to sell as their own lens (i might be mistaken since I've read so many stuff in the last month or so lol).

The only lens that comes to mind is the DA18-250 which is a re-badged Tamron 18-250.

I believe the DA*50-135 and DA12-24 are actually shared Tokina lenses.
