Lucky Pentax Finds at Thrift Store

Stumbled on a camera package at the thrift store. There was a roll of film inside - see film scans from it HERE

First the gear. Pentax ES + Takumar lenses, Vivitar 3X-8 teleconverter. (S-M-C Takumar 200/4 not pictured here). Check out that crazy Nikon strap!
I've had a chance to briefly test out the 85/1.8 - SAMPLES HERE

And here are accessories, filters, case:

Am I reading that lettering right? An S-M-C 85 f/1.8!?

(Can we ask how much was paid for the whole package?)

You read that right. As for the price ... ummmmm ..... $100
Some days are just stupidly lucky, this has happened before.

The original owner probably attached the Nikon strap only to put off potential thieves...
Congratulations on the great buy anyway...

I saw one go for EUR 450 here in the marketplace - that's over $600 USD! Eep!
Tempted to sell it and get a much much needed wide lens for my 645N + lots of film. Not until I give it a good test though

That is a sweet find!

My 2 best:

1 - craigslist, bunch of camera stuff for $75 - bought for the mint, still had the box original owner 50mm f1.4 smc-a.

2 - pawn shop, total $50 - a couple of bodies with the Takumar SMC 50mm F4 macro (same as the one the OP received) and a 40mm f2.8 smc-m.

At my local Sunday fruit & veg market there is a guy who sells mainly electronic stuff but on occasion has a bit a photo gear too.

So far I have nabbed :

Pentax-M 50mm f1.4 - $15 - excellent condition, my current go to lens

Pentax-M 80-200mm f4.5 - $15 - has fungus but will work on this one

Ricoh 50mm f1.7 - $5 - excellent condition, sharp lens but a little plasticky

Sunpack Auto260 Flash - $15 - BRAND NEW NEVER USED, tilt & swivel, safe 7.4volts, a great flash to get me started

My wife complains that everytime I go there I end up with a new lens, but it certainly adds excitement to Sunday morning fruit and veg shopping !!

Those are great finds. In the past, I've found at camera swaps / thrift stores:

* Takumar 50/1.4 $10-$15 (more than once).
* Other common Takumars like the 35mm and 55m $5-$10.
* Pentax *ist D DSLR + FAJ 18-35 + Pentax-M 20/4 for a total of $70 (at a yard sale)

What an amazing bunch of deals. Those Ricohs are underrated lenses. I like that they're plasticky, even the lens itself is plastic on my Rikenon P 50/2. That makes for a very lightweight package mounted on my K-x. I don't know about your 1.7, but my copy has the richest, most saturated tones of any 50mm lens I've tried (and I've tried lots).

Yes I would agree with you about the Ricoh, I was surprised at the IQ myself and it is lightweight.

I guess I like the build quality of the Pentax-M better - smoother focus ring and 1/2 stop aperture spoil me.

btw, it came with a lens hood too that I can use with the 18-55mm kit lens !!

I hadn't touched my Rikenon P for at least a year (I have like 7 other lenses in 50mm length and also shoot mostly medium format these days) ...
Anyway, last week I took it for an outing with my Pentax ME and some old expired film. Here's just one frame:

HERE are more samples (all shot on digital)
