Cosina 55mm f1.2 worth in usd?

How much this lens worth?

I lost my m50 f1.2 few years back and would like to have a similar. I got a price for a mint copy, but cannot compare. relatively high cost if you ask. So, I would like to find out a bit more before my final decision.

Thanks.

I paid $200 for a mint copy a couple years ago. I think you may be looking at $300 to $400 right now - they've become scarcer, and threads like the "Cosina 55 1.2 club" and "post out f/1.2 images only" threads have not helped things.

I do think that an f/1.2 lens is one sure-fire way to make some unique, dazzling images, different than anything else you have, and the Cosina has proven it can deliver time after time.

I actually sold my Voigtlander 58 f/1.4 Nokton after getting the Cosina - they are made by the same manufacturer behind the scenes (Voigtlander = Cosina) and are very similar lenses, in build and optical qualities.

The Porst (not the same as the Cosina/Revuenon, less sharp) are going for $150-300

The pentax mount Cosina/Revuenon are almost impossible to find, I just got one from Europe for $335 plus shipping (likely $380 to my door unless I have to pay tax ) (jsherman its almost entirely your fault I bought one of these )

M42 mount tomioka/auto cosina/auto revuenon/etc are selling for $800+ on ebay

I think JSherman already covered the question very well.

IMHO, its worth the cost especially wrt the increased price of the FA50.

Completely unhelpful: this is another lens that I'm happy to have bought two years ago.

I blame a guy that went by the name of "The PiRate" (Kelly, who moved on to the A900) - he and Duh Vinci started posting some mind-bending bokeh in early 2008 with their Porst and Cosina, and I had to have one. Stuff like:

I think this might be FF Canon guys, who also love buying/shooting the m42 Takumars on their 5D and 1Ds.

If the going price is $300 - $350 now, then the market has spoken. Still not a lot of money IMO for something so unique - You can't get a Limited for that. You can barely get an FA 50 1.4 for that now.

Amazing shots! These lenses are like creativity in a bottle!

I wager the price on these lenses will only increase as they become more renowned and more scarce. I read that the later Pentax mount copies might be the best of all because they were the latest and had the benefits of the most revisions and current manufacturing tech and tolerances.

Thanks for your replies. Beautiful images.
Personally, 400usd is what I think it is worth. I can also increase my offer a bit more. The only thing that keep me back is that I have lived so long time without it. f1.4 can just produce (almost) as nice. I ll contact the seller ;-)
