Went to buy a Takumar 85mm/1.9; came back with a 85mm/1.9 hood

Here is what happened:
The guy was selling a Spotamtic F with some lenses and filters. So I phoned him to ask what lenses he has. He said don't know much about camera but can read the writings. So I heard him saying Takumar 35mm/1:3.5, Takumar 85/ 1:1.9, and Soligor. He is asking 100$ CAD for the lot. Got over excited, drove 20 min @-20C cold, just to find a hood for 85mm/1.9 along with other two lenses and the Spoti F. I did not have a 35/3.5, so offered him 50$ for the lot.
Here is what I got for 50$
Spotamatic F
S-M-C Takumar 1:3.5/ (original Caps & Case)
Soligor r 80-200mm f3.5 (my god its heavy)
Izumanon Close-up Zoom Attachment Lens
Hoya PL (49mm), some filters, cable release, mini trpod etc.
Braun Flash 17BC (works)
All in a leather bag.

That was my Saturday evening adventure.

The hood itself is worth about $20 on Ebay. The SMC 35/3.5 is about $80-120 if listed correctly and in mint condition. The rest are fairly worthless but the profit is certainly there.

Nice find, even if the 85mm lens wasn't there. I can definitely relate to the close call.

Every thrift store Spotmatic I've encountered had the 55mm Tak attached. But the thing is, I only see the 85 of the 1:1.8/55 which leaves my heart racing till rationality sets in.

Darn that was close. I was hoping for you. Still a nice find for the money and the 35mm is a sweet lens.

The Spotmatic F is nothing to sneeze at, if in working condition.

It is in very good condition and working, probably I will keep it for myself. The other two (came with other Taks) I have, has some issues.

This is probably entirely antithetical to everything you stand for but I'm looking at it in terms of Ebay resell value.

A spotmatic F in working condition (good light seals + bumpers, fast mirror and an accurate meter) is fairly rare and could fetch a decent price on Ebay USA, $70-100 or so. Considering that a routine CLA of a Spotmatic runs ~$70 from Eric, the vast majority of Spotmatics from folk's attics/basements are practically worthless. I have about 20 Spotmatics sitting around my house, CLAing them would actually decrease their value.

I had one of these, the "C/D" version. One of those lenses that makes you worry about how secure the M42 adapter system is. It's a decent lens for its age. I tested it against the F70-210, figuring the Soligor was 1.5 stops faster, but the Pentax was sharper.
