I think most people have been warned about the "dangers" of SDM multiple times. If they don't know, and frequent an internet forum like this, they must be illiterate. At the same time, understanding these, many people continue to purchase these lenses (as I have done) and use them with impunity.

I happen to like the optics of these lenses and am willing to deal with the SDM deficiencies.

Damn it! I knew logic and rational reasoning was the wrong way to go.

I have considered buying a DA* lens on a few occasions, but every time I get the feeling maybe it’s okay to step into the water, another SDM failure surfaces either here or at the other forum. The latest SDM issue was reported just 4 days ago in this thread. These reports are not infrequent.

Didn't Ole's 60-250 fail a long time ago? If so, not really a "new" report.

There are plenty of threads around for SDM complaints. Can we talk about the optical merits of the 60-250? That's what I want to read!

I like this lens. Here is a scaled down example - the full-size version is on After Surprise Snowstorm - Sergey's Photo Journal.

Great shot. This lens really shows up detail. I would believe that it is as sharp as the DA*300. How did you get so close to the robin??
BTW my 60-250 just arrived. I will get to try it out this weekend.......

A bunch of robins was feeding on that tree after snowstorm, and they didn't seem to pay much attention to humans. I was about 20 feet from the brid - it's a crop. Happy shooting!

Wow, beautiful colors (and pictures)! I have the 50-135mm and wish that I had a longer reach sometimes.

Thanks much. If I had the 50-135mm, I'd be thinking about the DA* 300mm though.
