The focal length really depends on where you will be shooting from. If you are far away. I'd take the 50-135. However, for the most part since you don't know I'd suggest the 16-45mm. Always a crowd pleaser.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of shots would you like to take? Portraits, close up? Wide crowd scenes? Groups of performers or participants? On-lookers? All of the above? Answering those questions for yourself will help you decide on your lens(es).

I found RioRico's answers interesting. I may try his approach at some future parade to see what I think. Since I have them, I've gone with a zoom (or two) previously, but he's given me something to think about.

From your list, my choice are 16-50 and 50-135.
But it's better with a friend, one lens each, and more fun too.
Depends what you intend to shot: your friends, the parade, candid portraits?

Don't forget to enjoy by just looking ;-)

I like wide angled shots and portraits, which is why I'm having a tough time deciding. Someone suggested a 28-75, but I don't own one and won't be buying one anytime soon (it overlaps too much with what I already own). Other than that, I shoot everything that I think is interesting whether it be the actual parade, crowds, or perhaps even debris on the side walk

And thanks for the reminder hoanpham, I do tend to get too involved shooting and forget to enjoy what's in front of me.
