I'd go for the Panagor 90mm F2.8 1:1 macro. Cheap, and very, very, very good.

No reply yet from the OP after the number of other (even better) options postulated.
First of all, let me make it clear that the Sigma 70-300 is likely to disappoint as a macro lens. It loses contrast, colour rendition and sharpness (all to very high levels) once you get to the 200-300mm range and at the 'macro' focusing distances. It would be imprudent to want a macro lens and be advised to get it in favour of a dedicated macro lens.

But indeed if you want a longer focal length, then the 100mm varieties should serve your purposes much better than the 35 macro or 50mm options. You also have the Sigma 70mm macro, which is highly acclaimed, and the Tamron 90 macro which is perhaps the best bang for buck macro lens around.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

The 100 wasn't on the list because I thought the reach might be too long. But now that I think about it, I'm pretty close using the 50mm M non-macros lens already trying to get macro shots.

I think thats the one to go with from the sounds of it. The 35 is a great lens, but as mentioned I would have to be right on top of it.

I wouldn't mind something used, I just have an issue buying stuff online lately and used Pentax stuff doesn't show up very often around here. :P

So I'll probably order a 100mm DFAWR next month and be happy

As for what toy trains am I shooting? N scale! 160:1 ratio. They are pretty tiny trains!

Aaaahh, so now it makes sense. We were helping you pick a macro, not picking the best one.

The 100 WR will not disappoint - though if you're just shooting indoors with the lens you could just do with the non WR version and save the extra funds for something else.

You also get the rounded aperture blades with the WR version though.

The panagor would be an option...if one could find one.
