what are your 2011 LBA/CBA itch ?

mine are as follows:

1:> X100 - obviously I need something that I can pocket easily without the annoying bulges that conventional dslrs' do on your clothes, added the benefits that it is lighter and which can be strapped or slung around your body with ease. I had taken this into consideration for those moments/events/situations that bringing a typical dslr is uncomfortable to bring along.

2:> SD1 - honestly, the resolution of this camera has gotten my attention. aside from the fact that the Foveon sensor is quite an impressive sensor and somehow displays the closest similarity of that to the Pentax cameras images. it could be even better. however, the cost of this camera might be a little bit too much for me as of the moment. but what can you expect from a camera with medium format qualities? for less than $2000, it seems a steal.

3.> Sigma 150 macro - no matter how much I try to convince myself that I already own some great shorter telephoto focal length macros and having an awesome 135mm, I can't seem to dismiss the potential need for a high resolution long telephoto macro lens for those situations that fine detail are necessary to achieve from afar. added with a 1.4x TC, this might somehow become some sort of 200/4 macro. this lens however made me consider getting a different body mount which can prove costly considering I want to pair it on a D700 or 7D Canon. such consideration comes with resolution and AF speed for candid/action/ general purpose shots. chime in the Sigma SD1 into the mix as well. I prefer this lens over the Tamron 180 due to flexibility on focal length preference use. the Tamron 180 however would seem to benefit those who want high resolution at the super telephoto end. oh, and a used non-OS copy of this cost cheaper than the DFA 100 WR macro.

4.> FA31 - this comes up every now and then and if I have the budget, I would gladly get one asap. I have a huge need for such focal length.

5.> FA43 - the FA31's main competitor. the resolution at wide open is astounding and make it difficult for me to choose, if not only for the focal length hiccup. all might not be lost though and depends on the affordability of the FA31.

6.> Sigma 85 - Yes, I like this lens a lot. but the longer I wait, the more I seem to loose interest in it. maybe I'll get this for the SD1, maybe....

it's funny thought that I' have no itch for the K-5 eventhough it's a really impressive camera.

Is that a Leica?

I've wanted a Leica, any Leica, my entire life.

It's not in the cards, but that's okay, because my skills don't warrant one anyway.

I've already itched the DA* 50-135 itch. Now I want a DA* 55. However, that is for next year.

All F1.2, whatever possible (!?)

Edit: As second though, I want a 1Dm2 and a Dremel more... F1.4 should be ok for a while.

  • Pentax K-5
  • Pentax DA 15mm ltd. lens
  • The yet-unofficially announced Pentax 12-35mm lens

I definitely have the K-5 in my sites, it's only a matter of time before I pull the trigger.

Regarding the DA 15mm, I just might need to rent one (if I can find a rental, that is) and decide for myself if I can justify having one. I have no doubt that people like it, and it's quality is said to be outstanding. However, I've tried a few ultra wide angle primes and zooms that were rather dismal. I suspect I got a bad copy in each situation, and luckily returning them was no problem.

The same goes for the 12-35mm that was rumored in a patent application mentioned here on PF a while back. If the lens can prove itself worth and is sharp sharp sharp then it just might help where my DA* 16-50mm fails because of insane CA at the wide end.

Oh, and (unlisted) of course I plan on winning the lottery to fund these purchases.

Well, I'm supposed to be done with LBA so "political": no comment will have to do. but body upgrade (even K20 or K-7 but ideally K-5) wouldn't go amiss, SD1 crossed my mind too but I'm not willing to do 2 systems at the time. For now? Some nice Pentax fim body will do and if I'll get chance to score some nice lenses along, I'll put them into my plan.

Is there an "ABA" itch? Like an Accessory Buying Addiction? Because I'm itching to get a set of monolights that may end up costing more than a K-5 or most Pentax lenses

Yep. Leica M9. Full-frame 18MP rangefinder.

I don't need one, but I sure would like to try one someday.

I've pretty much filled every focal length I'll ever use from 10mm to 135mm. But shooting pentax has really turned me into a "prime guy" So I'm hoping to eventually swap out my zooms for primes starting with the 10-20mm. I'd like to get a DA 14mm for the wide end, but maybe the 15mm ltd will suffice. Next I'll probably drop the 24-70 and get a 70/77 ltd.

F*300mm, FA*200mm, Pentax LX

I put these on my 'Christmas Wish list' for 2010, but ...

I will likely get at least one of these this year. Most likely the 200mm, my longest prime right now is 135mm. The LX would be an 'impulse buy' I don't really need, but it would be the cheapest of the three!

Edit 3/09/11: I just got the FA* 200mm ! YeeHa !!
Edit 8/25/11: I just got the F* 300mm ! Yippee !!
Edit 1/27/12: I just got the LX! Woo Hoo !!

Definitely an FA43 (and I think I might go order one now - DONE!) and then either the DA70 or the FA77 (probably the 70, I'd say, at this stage) and then, I'll be looking for something in the 85-135 range.

I also want an X100 (since the M9 is well out of range) but am unlikely to get it. I will have to sell things in order to go there.

I just scratched that itch last week. I got:

1. D FA 100mm MACRO WR - been meaning to get into macro, and i hear it is good for portraiture as well, which is another area I need to start to work on.

2. DA 55-300mm - I've been holding off on it for awhile waiting for a WR version. Before I purchased this lens and the one mentioned above, I've had no real telephoto. My nephew's t-ball season is about to start at the end of the month and I need the reach badly.

I am also in for the Sigma 150 Macro (subject to price).

I am tempted by the FA31 to replace the Sigma 30 but in reality it will need to stay, at least this year.

If someone made a waterproof 10-20 zoom I would snap it up (replacing the Tam 10-24).
