Pick one: FA 77mm or DA* 50-135mm

I know they're completely different lenses and I'm not asking for a pro and con list for each one.

But, assuming you do not own neither lens, if given the choice in, say a prize at a contest, which one would you grab?

50-135 - 'cause I already have the 77
But if I didn't have either it would definitely be the 77 - 'cause I prefer the 70-200 focal length range.
But seriously, they're both excellent lenses that it would come down to utility rather than lens quality...

77 because the 50-135mm has a pretty useless zoom range. If you want a tele zoom, get a 70-200mm IMO.

I have to completely disagree with that. A 50-135 is the perfect range for portraits on a cropped sensor. That's like saying 70-200 is a useless range on a full frame body.

FA77, because the pictures have the wauw factor I don't experience in
zoom lenses although the 50-135 is one of the best.
Better 2 great pictures than 5 very good ones at the end of the day.

Fa 77

as I have other lenses that cover 16mm to 200mm

if I had no lenses at all, or real crappy entry level zooms, Id pick the 50-135..

I'd have to say the FA 77mm Limited. Although I'd like both.

I think a better question would be the FA77 or DA70...

If I owned neither and someone were to give me one, I'd choose the 77, especially if it was in silver cause it's got pixie dust.

NaCl(even tho the 50-135 is more versitile)H2O

The 77, because that's the one the "pros" use!

Trust me, I own a tripod.
