If I were shooting in a studio, I'd probably choose the 12-24. In any situation where FL versatility really mattered, the 12-24 is a better choice, but having shot with both, I find the DA 15ltd easier to use for my purposes and the results I get with it are better than with any other WA lens I've owned.

I agree completely, Jay. I own and thoroughly enjoy both, but my affection for the limited primes on travel is based in large part because I will take them places I won't take a larger lens. If I am responsible for taking photos for others, I'll take larger and more equipment. For travel, I keep my luggage light, and having something with me when I need it (whether it is photo equipment or clothing) is worth a lot.

The 12-24 is rated best in class by Popular Photography. I have the 12-24 and I think it's every bit as sharp, possibly sharper than either of my only two primes...the 50mm F 1.4 and 50 mm Macro F 2.8....both Pentax lenses.

Can't comment on the 15mm except to say that I considered it and felt it lacked the versatility of the 12-24.

I have both, but have only had the 12-24 for a couple of weeks. So far I'm loving the 12-24, it produces simply fantastic pictures. I'm using it at 12 & 24 a lot. I think @ 15mm both lenses are very close in IQ, it's too soon for me to know which has the edge. I was surprised by how small and light the lens is, but the hood is huge, so big it's a struggle to fit in my camera bag (put it this way, my 50-135 is a much easier fit in the bag).

The 15 on the other hand is tiny, and the built in hood is fantastic. Although the build quality and feel of the 12-24 is nice, it can't hold a candle to the DA15 which is just gorgeous to hold and use. The flare resistance of the DA15 seems better, I pointed the DA12-24 into the sun and got a fair bit of flare, although still good compared to some of my other zooms, it was more flare than the DA15 (or DA21 which itself has excellent flare resistance).

Honestly I think this is the usual story of size & cost advantage of a prime, versus flexibility of a zoom. Not dissimilair to a DA70 vs 50-135 comparison.

Put the cap on and reverse the hood -- that problem is solved!

Actually I meant even with the hood reversed it's a beast. It's to do with the 72mm filter size and it being a wide angle so the hood tapers out.
