Sigma APO 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM for Pentax?

According to the front page of this site this lens is going to made in Pentax mount. I can't find anything to corroborate this information. Its predecessor was not in Pentax mount. Does anyone have any other link to help out? dpreview, which has the media release, doesn't mention mounts. Sigmaphoto.com doesn't seem to have much that I can find.

While I may never be able to afford this lens, it's nice to know that Sigma think it's worth their while making it for Pentax after not doing so before now. (Though it'll probably take a couple of years for us to see it!)

From today's press release:

QuoteQuote:
The Sigma APO 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM and APO MACRO 150mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM were first introduced at Photokina in September 2010. Those lenses will be available for purchase in late February and the end of March for the U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $4,700 and $1,600, respectively. In April, they will be joined by a weather-resistant update to another old favorite, the 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 II DG HSM, for the U.S. MSRP of $1,400. All lenses will be released in Nikon and Canon mounts first, and will be available in Sigma, Pentax and Sony mounts shortly thereafter.

It would be magic, and yes US$4,700 RRP

Wish they'd make an HSM TC though!

And nice that they are moving into weather-resistant lenses too: "three lenses that incorporate the company’s new, weather-resistant design."

It's a shame that the new one is so much more expensive than the old one (only $3k)! While the weather sealing is nice, the OS is borderline useless due to SR. Gotta pay a premium just to be allowed to use the lens on your Pentax, I guess!

In my opinion they already make a premium quality 300mm prime. I will not buy the 120-300 zoom. Not interested in the weather sealing either. HSM might be nice but the 300 AF is so fast on the K-5. Most of the time by the time hit AF it is ready before i am.

The best part of all this is the price of the 300mm prime for Pentax and other brands will drop I think. When they first announced it, the 120-300 and the 300mm prime dropped then went back up. I saw them as low as 2,495. It spooked most big retailers. If i were in the market them i would of pounced.

My copy of the 300 has coating bubbles, and is still so damn sharp it is amazing. If it were me and i was in the market i would find a 300 prime and steal it. And never look back.

Not interested in a prime at all. Shooting sport from the sideline a zoom is invaluable. Either that or have 2 cameras!

Yeah I agree here- having the flexibility of a zoom is invaluable.

I e-mailed Sigma's marketing department and asked about this lens in Pentax mount. The response was not encouraging. No planned production run in Pentax mount. Maybe if we start an e-mail campaign we can change their minds. Enough interest out there?

the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 APO EX DG is an extremely good for a zoom lens - I typically use primes and I have only a few minor gripes about the image quality. perhaps the biggest issue for me is the absence of a filter drawer and a proper circular aperture.
