Nikon AF MICRO-NIKKOR 55mm f/2.8 on a Pentax DSLR

Thinking about purchasing a really mint copy of the above lens as it was one of my favorite lenses when I shot with my D700. Does anyone here have any experience using this lens on a Pentax body (I have a K-x)? If not does anyone use any Ai-s lenses on their Pentax DSLR's? Thanks.

The AI lips on the aperture ring usually prevent a secure grip on the lens when you try to mount the lens. (Jam fit) I've used a non-Ai 55/3.5 micro nikkor to this effect though.

I was going to get a Fotodiox adapter. I have used an OM-->4/3 adapter from them and the quality is very nice and it's a snug fit.

Note: I have had my share of using Nikon lenses with Pentax DSLR bodies.

As FotoPete stated, the AI clip on the lens gets in the way of attaching it to a Pentax body. There is the danger of the lens being inadvertently de-attached from the body.

If you use an adapter with optics, it doesn't matter how good the adapter is, there will always be IQ degradation. If the adapter is without optics, you can't focus at infinity (a macro lens is not ONLY for macro).

In any case, you will lose autofocus, and worse yet, auto metering. You have to resort to stop-down metering. It will definitely slow you down and making manual focus more difficult. You will also lose p-TTL flash, if that's important to you.

There are better options.

I too have adapted manual Nikon-mount glass to my K20D. That may involve dremeling-off the aperture-ring protrusions, what I call the "nub and arc". It's possible to cut a slot in the base for the Pentax lens-lock pin to fit into, for security. Those with the full aperture-ring lip, I just force-fit and hope. Don't try that with anything longer than 200mm.

BUT... I had one AF lens that I thought to mod, and decided against. It didn't force-fit, as most non-AF lenses will, and I decided I'd do better to sell it, than to destroy its value. (Hay, I bought it for US$9 and sold it for US$84!) As SOldBear says, there are better options.

Sounds like it's not a good idea. Perhaps I will give it a go on my
E-510 with a Nikon F--->4/3 adapter. I just love that lens!
