Ink Stain on Lens

I have a lens that has a small ink stain towards the border far away from the center. Does anyone how I could clean it? I'm not the first owner of the lens.

At my photo lab we've used a product called PEC-12 for cleaning all kinds of things - prints, negatives, etc. - with ink stains, and worse. PEC-12 is archival, but I can't comment on how you can expect it to affect glass, let alone coated glass.

PEC-12 is expensive for the amount you get, especially if you only use it once. And it smells like bananas. To me anyway. ;-)

If any other PFers are familiar with PEC-12 perhaps they can tell you how it would behave on your lens.

Have you tried a typical camera lens cleaning solution?

No, I actually haven't. The only thing I've tried is a micro-fiber cloth. Do you know where I can purchase camera lens cleaning solution?

those are usually an alcohol based solution...anywhere you can buy camera gear they'll have...and they usually do well with oily greasy smudges (not sure about dried ink though...)

Is the ink stain filling a scratch in the front element, perhaps?

Got it out. Used a micro-fiber cloth with some rubbing alcohol and it came right off without any effort. Thanks guys!

Rubbing alcohol will even remove "Permanent" marker.
